Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of Sheikh Hasina – the former prime minister of Bangladesh who resigned amidst mass protests and fled to India, said in an interview with Deutsche Welle that his mother has not yet decided on her next destination.

Hasina, who served as prime minister for five terms, is deeply saddened and shocked that the people she and her family have done so much for could turn against her, forcing her to leave the country in such a disgraceful manner.

When asked about rumours of Hasina seeking asylum in the United States or the United Kingdom, Joy clarified, "These are all rumours. She has not made a decision on that yet. She is going to stay in Delhi for a little while."

He added that his sister is currently with Hasina, ensuring that she is not alone during this difficult time, according to The Daily Star.

Regarding Hasina's escape from Bangladesh, Joy revealed that his mother was reluctant to leave. "I was worried not because she was leaving Bangladesh, but because she didn't want to leave Bangladesh. We had to convince her," he said.

Joy emphasised the severity of the situation, telling his mother, "I said this is not a political movement anymore, this is a mob … they are going to kill you."

When questioned about any timeframe set by the military or others for Hasina to leave the country, Joy said that there was no specific deadline given.

However, he mentioned that there was an estimate of when the protesters would reach the prime minister's residence, indicating that if they did not move within that timeframe, they would not be able to do so at all.
