Members of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's team have begun seeking refuge in new destinations after fleeing a mass uprising in Bangladesh which resulted in the ousting of the Awami League (AL) supremo and her men.

According to top government sources, Hasina and her sister, Sheikh Rehana flew in together while the AL leader’s close associates made a hasty escape to India on Monday, landing at the Hindon airbase near New Delhi in a military transport jet. The group was reportedly in a state of extreme distress, having narrowly avoided mobs that stormed the prime minister's residence, Ganbhaban, reports India TODAY TV.

Hasina and her men fled Bangladesh in such haste that they were unable to bring even basic necessities such as extra clothes or personal items, according to top government sources.

India TODAY reports that after arriving at the Hindon airbase, members of the protocol office assigned to the Bangladeshi delegation stepped in to help, purchasing essential items and clothing for the distressed group.

According to sources, India has allowed Sheikh Hasina refuge until she gets asylum in some other country. Indian security personnel and protocol officers are helping the entourage members overcome the stress and shock.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was the first on the ground to meet Hasina and her entourage as the two sides discussed the present and future plans of the ousted AL president.
