The High Court on Sunday asked the Department of Environment (DoE) to implement a nine-point directive and submit a report in this regard within two weeks.
The High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order and expressed dissatisfaction over the negligence in implementing the nine-point directive of the court.
In its observation, the court said, “People are being killed because of air pollution. Please save people from air pollution.”
The High Court also issued a warning to summon the authorities concerned if the directives are not implemented.
The Department of Environment, two city corporations of Dhaka, inspector general of police and RAJUK have been asked to submit the implementation report.
The court also fixed February 22 for the next hearing.
Senior lawyer Manzill Murshid stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar and Advocate Amatul Kabir represented the state and the Department of Environment, respectively.
On January 30, Manzill Murshid filed a petition seeking implementation of the High Court’s nine-point directive.
On January 31, the court wanted to know the steps taken to prevent air pollution in Dhaka and asked the authorities concerned including the Department of Environment to inform about it on February 5.
The High Court issued the nine-point directive on January 13, 2020, after hearing a writ petition filed by the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
