The High Court on Tuesday denied bail to suspended Gendaria Awami league leaders Enamul Huq Enu and his brother Rupam Bhuiyan in two graft cases.
The court also issued two separate rules asking the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the government to explain in two weeks why Enamul and Rupam should not be granted bail in the cases.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the rule following two separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC and lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub appeared for the accused during their bail petition hearing while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
Earlier, in October 2019, the ACC filed two cases — one against Enamul for amassing illegal wealth worth 21.89 crore taka and another against Rupam for 14.12 crore taka — with its integrated district office-1 in Dhaka.
On January 13, 2020, a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Enamul and Rupam from a house in Subadda area of Keraniganj for their alleged involvement in the casino business.
