HC grants 4 weeks bail to ex-AL MP Awal, wife

The High Court on Monday granted four weeks of anticipatory bail to former Awami League lawmaker AKMA Awal and his wife Laila Parvin each in a corruption case.

The court also ordered them to surrender before the lower court after four weeks.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the accused seeking bail in the case.

On December 30, 2019, Deputy Director Md Ali Akbar of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Barishal unit filed three cases against ex-MP Awal and his wife.

According to the case statements, Awal occupied a portion of government land behind the Land Office in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila and built a two-storied building on it.

He also rented the building to Pally Bidyut Samity and the rent agreement was signed by his wife Laila.

Awal was elected as a Member of Parliament from the ruling Awami League from Pirojpur-1 constituency in 2008 and 2014 elections.
