The High Court on Monday has directed to ban all kinds of harmful games including Free Fire, PUBG, TikTok from the online platform.
At the same time, the court has issued a rule asking why all kinds of online games and apps like TikTok, Bigo Live, PUBG, Free Fire games would not be closed.
A virtual bench comprising the HC Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order.
The petitioner's lawyer barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab confirmed the order.
On June 24, two Supreme Court (SC) lawyers, barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab and Mohammad Kawsar, filed a writ petition on public interest on behalf of the “Law and Life Foundation,” a human rights organization, in the relevant branch of the HC.
The writ asked for instructions to close online games and apps from online platforms across the country.
In the writ petition, the postal and telecommunications secretary, BTRC chairman, education secretary, home secretary, law ministry secretary, health secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), Bangladesh Bank, mobile operator bKash and Naga were named as defendants.
Earlier, on June 19, a legal notice was sent seeking redressal. After receiving the notice, the lawyer filed a writ petition for not taking any action.
