HC rejects bail plea of 2 top Destiny officials

The High Court has rejected four separate bail petitions filed by two top officials of Destiny Group -- Chairman Mohammad Hossain and Managing Director Rafiqul Amin -- in two money laundering cases.

The virtual High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order after hearing their bail petitions on Wednesday.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood in favour of the state. Besides, Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru and Barrister M Mainul Islam were present in favour of the accused before the court.

Earlier on 21 July, Mohammad Hossain and Rafiqul Amin filed virtual bail petitions with the High Court.

On July 31, 2012, Anti-Corruption Commission ACC filed two cases with Kalabagan Police Station against the company officials and submitted charges on May 5, 2014.

ACC also said the company laundered a total of Tk3,285 crore, cheating investors out of their fortunes.

Since October 11, 2012, Mohammad Hossain and Rafiqul Amin have both been in jail.
