The High Court has rejected the bail petition of Ahsan Habib, Health Technician of Regent Hospital Ltd in a case filed over their alleged involvement in issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Atoar Rahman passed the order on Tuesday.
Deputy Attorney General Saifuddin Khaled who appeared for the State before the court on Tuesday confirmed the matter to the Business Post.
Earlier on July 14, a Dhaka court sent seven employees of Regent Hospital Ltd including Ahsan Habib to jail after the end of their remand in a case filed for producing fake Covid-19 test results and issuing fake certificates and also for realizing money from patients illegally in the name of coronavirus tests and treatments.
Earlier on July 8, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury placed each of them on a five-day remand in the case.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on July 6 raided two hospitals of Regent Group in Uttara and Mirpur and arrested eight people for issuing fake coronavirus test results and certificates by using forged serial number and signatures of concerned authorities. Amongst other charges, they also realized illegal fees from the patients and operated the hospital without having any proper approval.
RAB later on July 7 filed a case against 17 including Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed under Sections 406/417/465/468/471/ and 269 of the Penal Code with Uttara West police station.
