The High Court has rejected a review petition filed by Partha Gopal Banik, suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet Division, seeking exoneration from a graft case over amassing illegal wealth worth 80 lakh taka.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order on Monday on the ground that it was not properly presented.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood in favour of the state while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan was present in favour of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on January 24, ex-DIG prisons Partha Gopal Banik filed a review petition with the High Court seeking exoneration from the graft case filed against him by the ACC.
Earlier on December 15, 2020, a Dhaka court started examining prosecution witnesses against Partha Gopal Banik.
ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin, also the plaintiff of the case, testified before Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge Court-10 on December 15 last year.
Earlier on November 4, 2020, a Dhaka court framed charges against Partha Gopal Banik in the case.
After framing charges, the court fixed November 18 for recording deposition of witnesses in the case.
Earlier on October 29 last year, a Dhaka court deferred till November 4 the hearing on charge framing against Partha Gopal Banik in connection with the case filed after the recovery of 80 lakh taka from his residence in Dhaka.
On July 28, 2020, during a drive at Partha Gopal Banik’s house, the ACC seized 80 lakh taka and arrested him on charges of irregularities and corruption.
