The High Court has rejected the bail petition of JKG Healthcare's Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury In connection with a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Jahid Sarwar passed the order on Tuesday.
Deputy Attorney General Md Monirul Islam appeared for the State while Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub was present in favor of the petitioner before the court.
Earlier on December 28, Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury filed a bail petition with the High Court in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
On September 14, the High Court ordered the lower court to provide documents of fraud case against Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury to her lawyers. A High Court bench comprising of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order.
Earlier on September 03, Dr Sabrina applied to the High Court to stay the proceedings of the case filed at Tejgaon Police Station on charges of fraud and forgery.
Besides, Sabrina also appealed against her dismissal order seeking relevant documents of the case in the Judicial Court.
Dr Sabrina is currently in jail in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
A Dhaka court framed charges against eight people including Sabrina in the case on August 20.
On August 5, Md Liakot Ali, an inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet before the court.
According to the charge sheet, JKG Health Care provided 27,000 coronavirus reports without following proper test procedures while most of them were found to be fake.
Police arrested Dr Sabrina on July 12 on the charges of fraud and forgery.
