The High Court today rejected a writ petition filed against two superintendents of police of Satkhira and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for making provocative statements by posting personal and allegedly doctored photos and videos of Shipra Rani Debnath on Facebook.
The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order on Thursday.
Earlier on Sunday (August 16), Supreme Court Lawyer Barrister Monoj Kumar Bhowmik filed the writ petition in the concerned branch of the HC, attaching a national daily's report titled 'Cyber-bullying now adds to her trauma'.
The writ petition sought an order from the concerned authorities to investigate the Facebook posts of the two police officers- Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Mostafijur Rahman and SP Mizanur Rahman Shelley of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and take action accordingly.
Defendants in the writ petition include - cabinet secretary, secretaries of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, inspector general of Police, PIB chief, deputy inspector general of Khulna Range and others concerned.
Shipra Rani Debnath, a student of Stamford University and a crew member of slain Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, has fallen victim to cyberbullying recently.
On August 14, Satkhira SP Mostafijur Rahman posted some personal photos of Shipra, a Stamford University student and a crew member of slain Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, on Facebook and expressed doubts over her innocence. He also hinted more of such pictures would come.
Later, a similar post was made by Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Shelley, SP (Dhaka Metro -- South) of the Police Bureau of Investigation. Besides, He tried to justify the case filed against Shipra by sharing similar photos of her.
