The High Court has issued a ruling asking the government why the bail of Mohammedan Sporting Club director Md Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan will not be cancelled in a case filed against him on charges of amassing a wealth of 4.34 crore taka illegally.
An HC bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim issued the rule on Tuesday after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a petition against the bail order.
Lawyer Mohammad Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik was present on behalf of the state.
Earlier on March 18 last year, a Dhaka court granted bail to Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan in a case filed against him on charges of amassing a wealth of 4.34 crore taka illegally.
On September 25, 2019, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan from his residence.
The ACC on October 27, 2019, filed a case against him with the ACC’s integrated district office.
According to the case statement, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan showed his immovable property worth 64.2 lakh taka and movable property worth 79.7 lakh taka in the 2018-19 tax year but he failed to show any legal source behind the property.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) found Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan’s wife and children have 2.96 crore taka, but he concealed the information in his income tax statement.
