The High Court on Sunday directed to submit all documents related to the birthday of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia within 60 days.
A virtual bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Nahid Sultana Juthi, told BSS that there were several documents on different dates of Khaleda Zia’s birthday, including one on the National Mourning Day.
Her date of birth has been mentioned as September 5, 1946, in her SSC documents, August 4, 1944 on the marriage registration certificate, and August 5, 1946 in the machine readable passport.
Also, her Covid-19 test report in May this year states her date of birth as May 8, 1946.
A petition was filed to issue a rule to those concerned to take legal action against Khaleda Zia in accordance with the penal code and to take legal action against the use of different dates of her birthday.
Nahid Sultana also said the court issued a rule on the matter and instructed all concerned to submit all information given in various documents about Khaleda Zia’s date of birth within the next 60 days.
Supreme Court lawyer Mamunur Rashid filed the writ petition with the High Court challenging the inaction of the defendants to take action against the use of different dates of birth of Khaleda Zia. The court ordered a preliminary hearing on the writ on Sunday.
In the petition, secretaries to the ministries of home affairs, and health and family planning, inspector general of police, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, and Khaleda Zia have been made defendants.
Deputy Attorney General Arvind Kumar Roy and Bipul Bagmar appeared for the state.
