The High Court on Wednesday sought information on Health Ministry’s progress of implementing a 25-point recommendation issued by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after identifying 11 areas of corruption in the health sector.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman delivered the order after hearing a writ petition on the issue.
Confirming the matter to The Business Post, Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan, quoting the court said, “The authorities concerned have to submit the progress report before the court within the next 60 days.”
Earlier on September 27, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directives to the Ministry of Health to implement the 25-point recommendation of the ACC after identifying 11 areas of corruption in the Health Service Division.
Advocate Ishrat Hasan and Advocate Md Aminur Rahman Chowdhury filed the writ petition.
Two secretaries of the health ministry, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and six others have been made respondents to the writ.
The writ petition sought a directive to submit in the form of a report to the court on what action has been taken about the recommendations.
The writ was filed attaching reports published in the newspapers in this regard.
On January 31, 2019, ACC identified 11 areas of corruption in the health sector and came up with a 25-point recommendation to stop them.
The report identified various pockets of corruption in the health sector including in purchases, recruitments, promotions, transfers, assignments, medical treatment, use of medical equipment and supply of medicines.
However, reports were published in the media as the recommendations are yet to be implemented.
