The High Court stayed a government move that cancelled freedom fighter status of 119 members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB).
The virtual HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan passed the order on Tuesday following two separate writ petitions filed by the 119 BGB personnel.
Barrister Abdul Kaium was present on behalf of the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas stood for the state during the virtual hearing on the writ petitions.
As per the stay order, 119 members of BGB will get the benefits as freedom fighters.
Earlier on 7 June, the liberation war affairs ministry in a gazette notification cancelled the status of freedom fighters of 1,134 Border Guard of Bangladesh personnel. The gazettes were cancelled as per the decision of the 66th meeting of the National Freedom Fighter Council held on December 10, 2019.
