The High Court on Monday summoned the manager of the National Bank Ltd's Gulshan Corporate Branch to give an explanation over the alleged withdrawal of Tk 22.60 crore from the branch after 8pm on December 28 last year.
A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order in suo moto as the newspaper reports on the matter were brought to the court's attention.
The court asked the bank official to appear before it on March 12.
The High Court also asked the Bangladesh Bank authorities to inform it about actions taken against the accused over the alleged transaction of huge amounts of money after working hours and asked the central bank to submit a probe report in this regard.
The court also issued a rule, asking the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) to explain as to why the court shall not declare that said transaction illegal.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan brought the matter to the court's attention. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state.
