HC warns BB officials over ‘distortion of history’ in book

The High Court (HC) on Thursday warned officials of Bangladesh Bank (BB) over distortion of history regarding Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a book titled 'Bangladesh Bank-er Itihash (History of Bangladesh Bank)' while delivering verdict on a writ petition.

The court also observed that the officials concerned of the central bank must be careful so that such mistakes and distortion do not take place in future.

The HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali came up with the observation while delivering verdict on a writ petition filed by Dr Kazi Ertaza Hasan, chairperson of Bangladesh Human Rights Development Commission, in 2018 challenging the distortion of history in the book.

The HC bench disposed of the writ petition as BB officials had earlier offered unconditional apology before the court accepting all responsibilities for the incident.

Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mynul Hasan represented the state while Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the writ petitioner and Advocate Ajmalul Hossain stood for central bank officials before the court.
