Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said that they were worried about the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine as current stock of the vaccine would run out in a week.

“It is very sad to say but it is true. We are worried about the second dose. The stock might serve a week or 10 days,” he said at a press briefing at his office.

“We talked to India about the second dose. We ordered three crore vaccine and got only 70 lakhs. We are also talking to other countries like Russia, China, the United Kingdom and the United States about the vaccine. Negotiations are on with them. We will be able to give good news soon,” the minister said.

The minister also suggested to continue the ban on movement long-haul buses and trains, and also vessels for several more days.

He also recommended keeping the Indian border with Bangladesh closed till the Corona situation in India becomes normal, he added.

As per the agreement, Bangladesh was supposed to get three crore Covishield vaccine of Oxford-AstraZeneca from the Serum Institute of India. But Bangladesh received only 70 lakh doses in two instalments and another 32 lakh doses as a gift from the Indian government so far.
