Dearth of skilled healthcare human resources has remained a major concern in the country’s public health sector, according to ASTHA, a project of Swisscontact Bangladesh.
“The situation is more alarming in the rural areas where residents rely largely on unqualified providers,” said Rezaul Karim, the keynote speaker, at a round-table discussion organised by the Achieving Sustainability Towards Healthcare Access (ASTHA) on Monday.
“The government, therefore, has stressed on reducing inadequacies in human resources in its fourth Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Development Programme (2017 – 2022),” he said.
The discussion among health-based journalists on “Community Paramedics: A Skilled Healthcare Workforce in Rural Bangladesh” was held at Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Bhaban in the capital.
While presenting a power point presentation, Rezaul explained the importance of community paramedics in rural health services.
While delivering the welcome speech, Senior Technical Adviser to ASTHA Dr Jafar Ahmed Hakim stressed the importance of journalists’ writings for knowing the role of community paramedics to improve rural health services in the country.
Dr Abu Mohammad Zakir, senior technical adviser to ASTHA, discussed the opportunities for the community paramedics at grassroots level.
