Dhaka experienced heavy rainfall triggered by cyclone Remal, resulting in waterlogging in various parts of the city.

The incessant rain has flooded parts of some streets, slowing down traffic, and disrupting commutes for officer workers and students in Dhaka, reports UNB.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) recorded 116mm of rain in nine hours till 3pm on Monday.

Different areas including Uttara Airport to Kakoli, Mirpur, Shewrapara, Kazipara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Rampura, Badda, Shyamoli, Manik Mia Avenue, and Mouchak were inundated, causing suffering to the residents.

Streets in those areas were flooded, with individuals seen wading through knee-deep water in some areas including Gabtoli to Mirpur Mazar Road.

School and office-goers faced the brunt of the situation as they struggled to reach their destinations amidst the heavy rain and strong winds.

Besides, low-income groups such as day labourers remained idle due to the lack of work caused by the adverse weather conditions.

Despite the traffic moving slowly, the overall traffic situation in the city remained normal, said Abu Saleh Md Raihan, joint commissioner of traffic (north) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Pedestrians and commuters faced challenges due to flooded roads and sidewalks.

Cyclone Remal, which began making landfall on Bangladesh’s coast on Sunday night, has moved northward and weakened. Initially a severe cyclonic storm, it has diminished to a cyclonic storm and further to a land-deep depression over Jashore and surrounding areas, according to the BMD bulletin.

Maritime ports in Payra and Mongla have been advised to lower their danger signal from 10 to local cautionary signal number three. Similarly, Cox's Bazar and Chattogram are advised to lower their danger signal from nine to local cautionary signal number three.

Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay are advised to remain sheltered until today morning, and then proceed with caution.
