Loading and unloading of goods at jetties and outer anchorage of Chattogram Port came to a halt since Sunday morning because of heavy rains and inclement weather.
Mohammad Omar Faruq, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), the port operations remain suspended since morning for the inclement weather.
“Unloading from six vessels loaded with food grains, one vessel loaded with sugar, another one with fertiliser, and 21 more vessels carrying cement clinker remained suspended at the outer anchorage and on the jetties," he said.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 79.4 mm of rainfall, the highest in June, in the past 24 hours till 3:00pm Sunday and they forecast the situation would remain the same till Monday.
The city received total 163.21 mm rainfall in the first six days of June.
