Hefazat-e-Islam's central organising secretary and party spokesman Azizul Haque Islamabadi has been arrested.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DC) Asaduzzaman Ripon said Azizul Haque was arrested on Sunday and sent to the court on Monday.
The court granted a seven-day remand for Azizul Haque in a case filed in 2013.
The investigating officer sought 10-day remand for Azizul.
However, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed granted seven days, said the general recording officer of the court.
Azizul is the highest-ranked Hefazat-e-Islam leader to be arrested ever.
