Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, legal secretary of the recently dissolved central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam and former MP of Sunamganj-3 constituency, has been arrested.
A Detective Branch (DB) police team arrested him from Abbasi Jame Mosque in Bankalapara of Sylhet city at around 1:00 am on Thursday.
Confirming the matter, an official of Sylhet Metropolitan Police said that Shahinur will be taken to Dhaka later on the day.
According to police sources, there are several cases against Shahinur Pasha, including the 2013 Hefazat violence. He was also arrested in connection with the recent violence conducted by Hefazat-e-Islam in different parts of the country.
However, in which case he was arrested could not be ascertained.
