Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Adviser and President of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Md Nahid Islam has decided to change the names of Hi-Tech Parks, Software Technology Parks, IT Training and Incubation Centers across the country to district-oriented naming.

This decision was taken at the 32nd meeting of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority at ICT Tower in Dhaka's Agargaon area on Wednesday, according to an ICT Division press release.

The adviser said there have been many complaints regarding allotment and cancellation of Hi-Tech Park land. Therefore, it is necessary to review whether there is any irregularities and corruption in this matter.

He added, “We have not got the expected results as per the objective with which the nationwide hi-tech parks were created.

“There needs to be further review on how much of the initiative was politically motivated, how much corruption there was or whether there was any deficiency in capacity. Identifying these issues will make it easier to work in future.”

Adviser Nahid commented that there is a need to study more about how foreign countries are working and how we can advance the work within our capacity. He also commented that practical work should be done without having too high expectations.

In the meeting, upon receiving a proposal to change Hi-Tech Parks’ dormitory names to Shahid Mugdho, Abu Sayeed, and several others who gave their lives during the Boshommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon, the adviser did not agree to it.

He pointed out that there is no need to rush like the Awami League government. The movement will preserve the memory of the martyrs in such a way that they last for a lifetime.

In the meeting, it was decided to suspend the Property Management Company (PMC) of Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park located in Jashore district, and appoint a new PMC within a short period of time through open tender.

There was a discussion about paying the arrears rent  of the existing establishments at Janata Tower in Karwan Bazar and how the tower can be renovated. The meeting also discussed how to help those who are planning to invest in the hi-tech parks to get loans.
