Health and Family Welfare Minister Samanta Lal Sen has said as he wants to see honest and high-quality medical professionals, they are careful enough to curb irregularities in medical admission test.

He also hopes that every doctor of the future generation will serve people with honesty and transparency as he himself has served the nation throughout his life with honesty.

The minister said these on Friday after visiting examination centres for holding Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) admission tests for 2023-24 academic year.

Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Azizur Rahman, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) ABM Khurshid Alam, BMA president Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and Directorate General of Medical Education Director General Prof Dr Md Titu Miah were present on the occasion, among others.

The health minister said that maximum precautions were taken at all the examination centres for MBBS and BDS admission test.

"An electronic device was put on every trunk carrying the question papers, bringing the process under digital monitoring. No mobile phone was allowed in the exam centres and no medical coaching remained open in the previous month. Even intelligence agencies did not give any scope to spread rumours of question leaks on Facebook,” he added.

“Digitalisation has been adopted in the admission process to bring transparency, stop harassment of real students, end irregularities and ensure admission of meritorious students,” he said.

The health minister also said that due to completion of the online admission process and digitisation of government medical colleges in the last few years, leakage of question papers has been stopped and the admission process has been completed through a transparent process.

The MBBS admission test for the academic year 2023-24 was held simultaneously at 44 venues of 19 examination centres of the country for one hour from 10am to 11 am.

A total of 1,04,374 candidates took the MBBS admission test this year against 5,380 seats in 37 government medical colleges and 6,295 seats in 67 approved private medical colleges.
