Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon observed the “Historic 7th March” Thursday with due respect and importance.
Programme of the day included hoisting of the national flag, wreath laying at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reading-out of messages of the president and the prime minister of Bangladesh, screening of documentary, discussion meeting and remarks by the Ambassador, read a press release.
Ambassador Dr Md. Monwar Hossain at the beginning of his remarks paid deep tribute to the architect of our independence, the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He also paid respect to the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs of the liberation war and the oppressed women who made their highest sacrifice of life. Ambassador presented the inner meaning & international significance of the 7th March speech.
He mentioned that the speech of Bangabandhu was a guideline to the nation to prepare for liberation war, an indication of the structure of the government during liberation war, an economic & financial policy for the country during the struggle.
Ambassador added that Bangabandhu, through this speech, could put together the emotions, aspirations and desire of the people with utmost diplomacy, elocution and political wisdom.
He added that the defining phrase of the speech, “The struggle this time is the struggle for emancipation, the struggle this time is the struggle for independence” is the indirect declaration of independence of Bangladesh which came in formally in the early hours of 26 March 1971.
While comparing the speech of Bangabandhu with the famous speeches in the history, Dr Hossain said the 7th March speech is not only a political oration, but also an ageless masterpiece due to its appeal and acceptance to the people.
Realising the value of the speech UNESCO in 2017 included it in the Memory of the World International Register as World’s Documentary Heritage.
Ambassador Hossain further stated that Bangladesh under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on the right track to become a developed country by 2041.
This occasion gives us an opportunity for a reflection on the glorious history of Bangladesh and set our future objectives to achieve that vision, he added.
Members of Bangladesh Community in Myanmar, officers and officials of the Embassy attended at the programme.
