Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Senior Secretary of the ministry's Public Security Department Mustafa Kamal Uddin have tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently in home quarantine.
Sharif Mahmud Apu, public relations officer of the home ministry confirmed the news.
They were scheduled to attend a function at Ganobhaban this morning in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. That is why samples were given to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB) to test Covid-19. Their test results came positive last night, the officer added.
"Both of them were asymptomatic," Sharif added.
