Hospital vandalised after patient’s death in Cumilla

The relatives of a patient vandalised Cumilla Trauma Centre on Tuesday following the death of the patient at the hospital.

Mobarak Hossain, 60, of Laksham upazila, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with a tumour in his leg.

Jemine Akter, sister of the patient, said they took her brother to the hospital with knee ache and the doctors told them that they will remove the tumour through surgery.

Later, the patient was taken to the operation theater around 8 pm and died there after he was given anesthesia for conducting the surgery by Dr Shafayet Islam, she alleged.

As soon as the death news of the patient spread around, the relatives of the patient got furious and besieged the hospital. A chase and counter- chase took place took place between the hospital staff and the deceased's relatives.

They also vandalised some valuables of the hospital and windowpanes.

Anwarul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police station, said an untoward incident took place at the hospital following the death of a patient.
