All hospitals across the country will resume normal healthcare services from Wednesday, stated Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Resident doctor Abdul Ahad on behalf of the agitating doctors on Tuesday.

He added, “As per the previous announcement, we have held a sit-in programme for two hours from 8am on Tuesday. After that, our outpatient services started at 10am. Doctors have also rejoined work in other departments – including outpatients.

“From tomorrow [Wednesday], medical services will be provided on a normal schedule in hospitals across the country.”

On August 31, doctors at DMCH were attacked over allegations of causing the death of a patient through negligence. In protest, the doctors of government hospitals – including the MDCH observed a “complete shutdown” from Sunday.

They observed the programme with four-point demands, including the arrest and trial of attackers, and seeking safe workplaces.

After receiving the assurance that their demands will be fulfilled, the doctors suspended the strike and returned to work at around 8:30pm on Sunday night.

It was announced on Monday that limited outpatient services and full indoor and emergency department services will resume from Tuesday. Apart from this, it was also announced that the doctors will continue their programmes to press home their demands.
