Family members of a Bangladeshi housewife demanded investigation into her death, alleging ‘wrong treatment’ at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad of India.
They also demanded punishment for those involved in the wrong treatment.
The family members of the victim Farhana Akhter alias Dinar raised the demand at a press briefing at the office of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Segunbagicha in the capital on Saturday.
Reading out a written statement, the victim's husband Amin Al Mamun said that his wife was suffering from pain in her left shoulder. She had taken treatment at different hospitals in Bangladesh but did not get a remedy.
Later, on July 20 this year, she was taken to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad, India. Different lab tests worth Rupees 70,000 were carried out. Orthopedic Doctor Sunil Dachepalli told him that his wife’s joint bone had enlarged and she should undergo surgery, he said.
“I then told the doctor that my wife had an allergy to anaesthesia. She was hospitalised twice for taking the medicine. The doctor had made a list of the medicines she took,” he said.
“Around 12:00pm on July 28, she was taken to an operation theatre. After half an hour, I was asked if my wife had an allergy to anaesthesia. I then told them that I alerted them (doctors) several times about it,” he said.
Dr Sunil and Dr S Prashanth Reddy of the hospital then said that they pushed the medicine on her which reacted. She was then taken to ICU where she breathed her last around 5:55am on August 1, he said.
The ill-fated husband demanded the interference of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Health Minister and the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka so that the doctors and others involved in the wrong treatment could be brought to the book after carrying out an investigation.
Two daughters of the couple were present during the press briefing.
