A Dhaka tribunal has set April 22 for charge framing hearing against Baul Rita Dewan (mystic singer), in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for making offensive comments and hurting religious sentiments.
Judge Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order on Wednesday.
Earlier today, Rita and two other accused, Shahjahan Kabir and Iqbal Hossain, who are now on bail, were present in front of the court.
Earlier on January 13, a Dhaka court granted bail to Baul Rita Dewan Baul and two others in a case filed for "hurting religious sentiment" under the DSA.
Earlier on that day, Rita Dewan surrendered before the court and sought bail through her lawyer. The court granted her bail after hearing in the case.
Earlier on December 2 last year, a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants after accepting a probe report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) against three people including Rita Dewan in this case.
Earlier, two cases were filed against Rita Dewan over the accusations.
Dhaka Bar Association Member Advocate Imrul Hasan filed the case against Rita Dewan under the non-bailable section 28 of the DSA 2018.
Besides, producer and actor Russell Mia filed another case under sections 295 (A), 298,504 and 505(A) of the Penal Code with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.
Advocate Imrul Hasan told the media that Rita Dewan made derogatory comments regarding Allah while competing with another singer in a mystic song duel [Pala gaan] in an event.
Besides, he also claimed that the song “hurt the sentiments” of the Muslim community.
