ICGAB gets accreditation to grant CGA degrees

The Institute of Certified General Accountants of Bangladesh (ICGAB) has received accreditation from the Ministry of Commerce to grant CGA degrees and conduct other educational programs.

The Ministry of Commerce issued a letter in this regard, signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry Khandkar Zakir Hossain, on Wednesday.

“The institute will be able to conduct its programs with certain conditions. The conditions are - no office audit program can be conducted, course contents and examination standards for granting CGA degrees should be improved to play a supportive role in enhancing the skills of professional general accountants in the country,” the letter read.

It also added that the annual income and expenditure statement and the spending on the development of the institution should be submitted to the ministry.  The institute also has to conduct the educational programs following the rules and memorandum of the institute properly. 

Vice President of ICGAB Biswajit Saha said the organisation was established in 1998 and has been operating since 2001. This time it got permission from the Ministry of Commerce to grant professional degrees and conduct educational programs.
