Country's iconic band singer Shafin Ahmed died of massive heart attack in a hospital in Virginia, USA, around 6.50am (Bangladesh time).

Shafin, lead singer, songwriter and bassist for the Bangladeshi rock band Miles, was 63, reports BSS.

He was known for his charismatic persona and stage presence and his many songs like Chand Tara Surjo, Firiye Dao, Aaj Jonmodin Tomar, Jala Jala Jala, were popular in the country and among the bangalee audience elsewhere across the globe.

Confirming the news of his death, Shafin's brother Hamin told media that the singer was taking part in back to back concerts across the USA and fell ill in Virginia on July 20.

He was rushed to the hospital on that day and was on life support.

Shafin left behind his wife, three children, and a host of relatives and millions of fans to mourn his death.

Born on February 14, 1961, Shafin's mother was legendary singer Firoza Begum and father Kamal Dasgupta, a renowned musician himself.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Shafin Ahmed, a popular band singer and son of legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer Feroza Begum.

In a message of condolence, she prayed for peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members. 

Shafin, a founder of the musical band Miles, breathed his last at a hospital in the US state of Virginia on Thursday morning Bangladesh time. He was 63.
