The Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Thursday acquitted journalist Probir Sikdar in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, 2006.
Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Joglul Hossain pronounced the verdict around 12:45pm in presence of the journalist.
Probir, editor of Daily Bangla 71, was sued over ‘defaming’ former LGRD and Cooperatives minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Facebook.
Lawyer Swapan Kumar Paul, adviser of Puja Udjapan Committee in Faridpur, filed the case with Kotwali police station on August 16, 2015.
He was arrested on that night and got bail after a three-day remand.
Earlier in the social media post on August 10, 2015, the journalist wrote that his life was under threat and the then minister Khandker Mosharraf along with two others would be responsible for his death.
Investigating Officer Md Monir Hossain, sub-inspector of Kotwali police station, submitted a charge sheet in the case on March 16, 2016.
The tribunal indicted Probir on August 4 the same year.
