The process to legalise the Bangladeshi citizens currently living in Lebanon illegally will start very soon as the country’s government has responded positively in this regard.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Lebanon Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan shared the development at a recent event organised by the embassy, reports Amader Shomoy.

He said that Lebanon’s labour minister and the head of general security assured him of taking effective measures on this issue when he met them in December, said the report published on Thursday.

The ambassador said that the embassy is working on starting the legalisation process as soon as possible. The details will be published soon through a notification.

His remarks have made the Bangladeshi migrant workers, who currently live in Lebanon illegally, very excited.

Applauding the embassy’s initiative, many Bangladeshis said that they have been deprived of the priviledges and facilities for immigrants in Lebanon, including essential medical care and opportunity to send remittances through legal channels, due to their illegal status.

They said they have also been unable to go home for a long time because of their illegal status.

according to the embassy, about 80,000 expatriate Bangladeshis currently live in Lebanon, and around 30,000 of them are living here illegally.

Many of these people came to Lebanon legally but are currently living illegally after falling victims of fraud by brokers and recruitment agencies. Many have also lost their passports after falling prey into the clutches of these fraudsters. Due to this, it has become very hard for them to live here legally.
