Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Sunday said that no valid notice would be issued in the name of illegal occupants and that they will be evicted without notice.

Atiq said this while evicting illegal structures at Lautola canal at Mohammadpur Basila in the capital, said a release.

"No notice need to be issued for illegal occupants, they can be evicted at any time," the mayor said.

He said that the original length and width of the Lautola canal can no longer be seen due to illegal occupation.

"The canal would be rescued and connected with the river Buriganga soon," he said.

The mayor said that those who have already illegally occupied the canal and built various structures will have to leave as soon as possible.

Everyone should be vocal against illegal occupants and the canals must be rescued at any cost to free the city from waterlogging, the mayor added.

Among others, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam, Chief Property Officer Mohammad Mozammel Haque and Local Councillor Asif Ahmed were present at the event.
