In pictures: The pineapple capital

Various varieties of pineapple are cultivated on some 6,840 hectares of land in Tangail’s Madhupur, from which farmers earn around Tk 500 crore annually.

Local farmers sell their harvest majorly in Garo and Jalchatra wholesale markets of the upazila, from where they are supplied to different districts.

Around 80 per cent of the nation's pineapple demand is met from the upazila.
