The Dhaka University hosted a seminar to commemorate India's support in Bangladesh's War of Liberation by marking the 52nd anniversary of the ceremonial farewell accorded by the Indian allied force to the Father of Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 12 March 1972 at Dhaka Stadium, before their return to India.

Addressing the event – held on Tuesday – as a special guest, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma described the day as one of the historic moments in the saga of India's unstinting support to the people of Bangladesh in their freedom struggle.

He thanked Dhaka University for hosting the commemorative event, which he said was an important step towards ensuring that the younger generation in both our countries imbibed our shared history and preserved the memory and legacy of our shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

The high commissioner affirmed that India had stood with the people of Bangladesh during the Liberation War of 1971 and will continue to stand with them in realizing their vision of a stable, prosperous and progressive nation.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan joined as the chief guest at the event, which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal.
