A Dhaka court has fixed February 28 for hearing on charge framing against Abdul Malek, a driver of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), in a case filed over possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition on 20 September last year.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka passed the order on Sunday.
Earlier on today, a Dhaka tribunal took cognisance of the charges against Abdul Malek, in a case filed over possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Earlier on September 21 last year, a Dhaka court placed Abdul Malek on a 14-day remand in two cases filed under Special Powers Act and Arms Act.
RAB arrested Malek, in Dhaka's Kamarpara area on September 20, 2020 for his involvement in various criminal activities.
The law enforcement agency recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine, five bullets, and counterfeit notes worth 1.50 lakh taka from his possession.
RAB claimed Abdul Malek was arrested for extortion and running illegal firearms trade in Turag thana area.
Based on secret information, an operational team of the RAB-1 battalion conducted a raid at a 7-storey building of Bamunertek at Kamarpara under Turagh police station at around 3:10 am and arrested driver Malek, said media officer of the battalion Md Morshedul Hasan.
One foreign pistol, one magazine, five rounds of bullets, fake currency worth around 1.50 lakh taka, one laptop and one mobile phone were recovered from his possession, he said.
