A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the charge framing hearing of a case filed against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee and five others -- on charges of embezzling Tk 1.27 crore from Islamic Foundation's Zakat Fund -- to January 11.
Judge Syeda Hosne Ara of Dhaka Special Judge Court-1 situated at Dhaka Alia Madrasa premises passed the order on today in presence of the prime accused Sayedee, who is also a convicted war criminal.
Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajol represented the Anti-Corruption Commission while Advocate Parvez Hossain stood in favour of the accused during the hearing.
In the petition, the defence mentioned that they were yet to get some papers which were necessary for the hearing.
The other accused in the case are: Mohammad Lutful Haque, former director of Islamic Foundation; Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, former chairman of Mosque Council for Community Advancement; Mia Mohammad Yunus, chief secretary of Bandhujan Parishad; Tofazzal Hossain, former president of Islamic Social Welfare Center; and Md Abdul Haq, assistant director of Islamic Foundation's Mosque Council.
Of the six accused, Sayedee is in jail after getting convicted and sentenced to imprisonment till death in crimes against humanity case, three are now on bail while Abul Kalam Azad and Abdul Haque are on the run.
Former IF director Aiyub Ali Chowdhury filed the case with the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on May 24, 2010.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) assistant director Wajed Ali Gazi filed the charge sheet in the case on April 30, 2012.
