The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh surpassed one lakh on Thursday as 3,803 more people tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours, making 102,292 confirmed cases in total.
Besides, 38 patients died from the infection in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,343.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 17,349 samples were collected and 16,259 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 567,503 samples have been tested in the country.
With 1,975 new recoveries, a total of 40,164 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 31 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, two between 21-30, five between 31-40, three were between 41-50, six were between 51-60 years, 14 between 61-70, five between 71-80 and two were between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 14 hailed from the Dhaka division, 18 from Chattogram, two from Khulna and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.
24 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas 14 died at home.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 448,474 as of Thursday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University data.
So far, 8,329,221 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,533,875 infected patients, 3,479,423 are in mild condition, which is 98 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,452 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 4,056,872 people have recovered.
