Analysing the inquest report, substantial evidence, and environment of the place of occurrence, the police on Wednesday said that Mosarat Jahan Munia, the college student who was found dead in a Gulshan flat, had committed suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner (Gulshan zone) Sudip Kumar Chakroborty told The Business Post on Wednesday that they did not find any mark of injury on her body other than a deep mark around her neck. He said that they thought that the girl was hanging for a few hours.

He said that analysing the CCTV footage, they found that Sayem Sobhan Anvir, who is accused of abetment of suicide in the case, visited the flat several times but he did not go there on the day she was found dead or the day of before.

The police found six dairies and mobile phone and a laptop of Munia in the flat. Reviewing the contents of the diaries, they found that Munia was in love with Anvir. She also had a lot of frustration over the sustainability of this relationship, said Sudip.

“We are now scrutinising Munia's diaries and phone to find whether there was any instigation behind her suicide,” Sudip said.

Asked about Sayem’s feeling the country, the police officer said that as per the information they had, Sayem’s brother, brother's family and some of other relatives left Dhaka for Dubai on a chartered cargo plane on April 27 and it was scheduled tour.

He said that checking Sayem’s passport and national identity card police did not find any evidence of his leaving the country.

Asked why they were not arresting Sayem, Sudip said that they were collecting evidence and if the evidence proves his involvement, actions would be taken accordingly.

College student Mosarat Jahan Munia was found dead in a flat on road 120 in Gulshan on Monday night.

Her sister Nusrat Jahan filed a case with Gulshan police under section 306 of the Bangladesh Penal Code early Tuesday accusing Sayem of inciting the victim to commit suicide.

Nusrat said that the victim called her on Sunday and confided her fear of being "in trouble". Nusrat Jahan headed for Dhaka from Cumilla on the next day and reached her sister's flat in the evening.

As there was no response from Mosarat, Nusrat managed to enter the flat with the help of the flat owner and found her sister's hanging body and called in the police.
