Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on Sunday said Inspector Sohel Rana, who was arrested in India on charges of intrusion, will be brought back home.

Rana was posted at the Banani police station under DMP.

He is the brother of e-commerce platform E-orange owner Sonia Mehzabin, who has been sued along with four others, over embezzlement of Tk 1,100 crore from consumers.

The DMP chief said that as a case was started against him (Sohel) in India, it is not certain whether they will be able to bring him back or not.

“It is possible (to extradite him) through sending a letter to the Indian Border Security Force from our Home Ministry. If the process fails, we will try through the Foreign Ministry,” he added.

The BSF personnel arrested Sohel Rana near the Chengrabandha border in Cooch Behar of the Indian state of West Bengal on Friday while he tried to cross the international border illegally, according to Indian media.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan division) Md Asaduzzaman said Rana was on duty last Thursday before he skipped work without any official reason.
