Integrated efforts of all the government, non-government and volunteer organizations can be the crucial means of protecting wildlife from further degradation.
Utmost emphasis should be given to creating awareness about wildlife and the importance of protecting the environment for the sake of the survival of all living beings. The existence of wildlife is very important for protecting biodiversity.
Experts and other stakeholders came up with the observation while addressing a discussion on the issue at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Sunday.
The district administration and the Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation (DWMNC) jointly organized the discussion in observance of World Wildlife Day (WWD)-2023.
The theme of the day this year is "Partnerships for wildlife conservation".
Additional DC Kollyan Chowdhury and Divisional Forest Officer of Social Forestry Rafiquzzaman Shah addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Divisional Forest Officer of DWMNC Niamur Rahman in the chair.
Chairman of Save the Nature Mijanur Rahman and Wildlife Supervisor Sarwar Hossain Khan also spoke.
DWMNC Inspector Jahangir Kabir gave an illustration of the conservation of wildlife for ecological balance.
He opined that the wildlife population has been gradually declining due to various reasons including the shrinking of their habitat. That is why time-fitting measures should be adopted.
Kabir said wildlife sanctuary is very important for protecting the natural world. So, ensuring security for wildlife has become an urgent need.
All government, non-government and research organizations concerned should come forward and work together to protect the existing wildlife and nature from further degradation, he added.
The speakers discussed various issues related to the conservation of migratory birds and biodiversity.
In his remarks, Kollyan Chowdhury said that people are destroying the environment for their own needs, and by doing that are also destroying their habitat. People need to raise awareness about this. In order to conserve biodiversity, human behaviour must be animal friendly.
He also called for the proper conservation of wildlife for maintaining environmental balance stressing the need for more public awareness about the importance of wildlife.
Earlier, they brought out a brief rally in front of the collectorate building to raise public awareness of the conservation of wildlife.
