The Ministry of Railways has decided to resume all intercity train services in phases after August 15.
Ministry officials are currently making preparations to run all the intercity trains, after a long halt due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to several ministry sources.
Shariful Alam, public relations officer of the ministry, said, "Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Sunday instructed us to resume all intercity train services after August 15 in phases."
To contain the spread of Covid-19, the government earlier suspended all of the train operations. However, trains started to hit the track with eight pairs of trains from May 31 and later the number was raised to 11 pairs on June 3.
Bangladesh Railway is now riding on 17 pairs of trains with a 50-per cent capacity to maintain sufficient social distancing.
According to the ministry information, some 362 trains run on different routes during normal circumstances. Of them, 102 are intercity trains, 260 are local, commuter and goods laden trains.
