Interim govt reshuffles advisers’ portfolios

The interim government has reshuffled the responsibilities of its advisers. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday by order of the president.

According to this notification, Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus will be in charge of six ministries and divisions – Cabinet Division, Ministry of Defence; Armed Forces Division, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Public Administration, and Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.

Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, and the Ministry of Shipping. Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Adviser Hasan Arif has the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD), and Ministry of Land. Adviser Sharmin S Murshid has the Social Welfare Ministry, and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the position of prime minister in the face of a mass uprising.

The next day, President Sahabuddin dissolved the parliament. He then appointed Nobel laureate economist Dr Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser to the interim government and 16 others as advisers. After that, four more advisers joined the interim government.

After taking the oath on August 8, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus held 27 ministries and divisions. Later, after four new advisers were added, responsibilities were redistributed among the members of the interim government.
