Police arrested a member of an international human trafficker gang from Bhalodanga village of Gangi upazila in Meherpur early Monday.
The arrestee is Abdus Samad Azad, 30, son of late Habibur Rahman and teacher of a Hafizia madrasa.
Hasan Imam, officer-in-charge of Criminal Investigation Department, said that a case was filed against Samad on June 5 with Alamdanga Police Station in Chuadanga in connection with human trafficking.
On secret information that he was staying at his father-in-law’s house, a team on police raided the house and arrested him in the morning.
Earlier, human traffickers killed 30 migrant workers, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, in Libya on May 28. The tragedy occurred in a smuggling warehouse in Mazda, near the city of Gharyan, southwest of Tripoli.
In primary interrogation, Samad confessed that he was an active member of the gang who was involved in human trafficking to Libya.
According to locals, Once Samad used to live in Libya. After returning home from there he got involved in human trafficking activities.
