The state lawyer on Monday informed the High Court the investigation of Rayhan Ahmed murder case will be completed within two weeks.
Later, an HC bench of Justice Mohammad Mujibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim adjourned the hearing of the case till November 16.
Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Russell Chowdhury represented the state before the court while Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Syed Fazle Elahi was present in favour of the petitioner of a writ filed seeking High Court's directives regarding the investigation.
Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Russell Chowdhury informed the court that the investigation officer of the case informed him they will submit the charge-sheet of the case within two weeks.
Earlier on October 13, the writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directives to investigate the death of Rayhan Ahmed allegedly at a police outpost in Sylhet.
Supreme Court lawyer and also a resident of Shah Paran area in Sylhet, Syed Fazle Elahi filed the writ petition attaching a newspaper report.
The Secretary to the Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police, Sylhet Police Commissioner, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner, and Sylhet SP were made respondents to the petition.
Rayhan Ahmed, 34, a resident of Akharia in Sylhet city, was beaten to death in police custody on Sunday, his family said.
His wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed a case at Kotwali Police Station early Monday accusing a number of unidentified people.
Police rejected the allegation and said Rayhan was caught by locals of Kastghar area during a robbery and was lynched.
The authorities suspended four policemen, including the in-charge of Bandarbazar Police outpost, over the incident.
