A Dhaka court on Friday sent Irfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim, and his bodyguard Zahid to jail after 5-day remand in connection with two cases filed under arms and the narcotics control act.
Rejecting a bail plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order after the investigation officer of the case produced them in court after the remand period.
Earlier on November 8, a Dhaka court granted 3-day remand in an arms case and 2-day remand in a narcotics case for each of them.
On October 27, four separate cases were filed against Irfan and Zahid under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on October 26 sentenced Irfan and Zahid to one year in jail – 6 months for drinking liquor and another 6 months for possessing walkie-talkies illegally.
Irfan Selim was arrested on October 26 for assaulting Navy officer Wasif Ahmed Khan.
Wasif filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station naming four people and several unnamed accused over the incident. All four are now behind bars.
Irfan Selim, also a ward councillor, was suspended from his councillorship over the incident.
