A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Dhaka-7 lawmaker Hazi Selim’s son Irfan Selim in two cases filed under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act.

The Court of Dhaka Additional District Magistrate passed the bail order.

On Monday, police sought clearance of the charges for Irfan after the investigation officer (IO) of the cases said to have found no evidence to prove the charges.

However, charge-sheet was submitted to the court in two other cases against Irfan Selim’s bodyguard Zahidul Molla after evidence was found to prove charges against him.

Irfan Selim was sent to jail after a mobile court led by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) sentenced him to one and a half years’ jail in two cases filed over the recovery of two firearms, 38 walkie-talkies, liquor and yaba pills from his residence.

Later, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed four separate cases against the duo under arms and narcotics act.

Irfan was earlier suspended from his position of the councilor for Ward-30 at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
